Rocky Mountain Jazz Compilation brings together emerging and established artists from either side of the Rockies to paint a picture of western Canada's jazz scene thatGÇÖs as varied as its landscape. Smooth and straight-ahead, nouveau and mainstream, contemporary and standards, all wrapped up in funky rhythms, swinging grooves and melodic ballads. Rocky Mountain Jazz Compilation has a little something for jazz aficionados and novices alike.

THE COMPILATION:
From Vancouver's Cellar Live and Calgary's Chronograph Records comes Rocky Mountain Jazz Compilation. Bringing together jazz artists from either side of the Rockies, this collection is as varied as the landscape it hails from.

From funky rhythms and swinging grooves to soulful ballads and time-honoured standards, Rocky Mountain Jazz showcases the diverse talents of western Canadian jazz GÇ" with some Latin, pop, funk and folk influences thrown in for extra flavour.

Some of the artists are emerging, but already making their presence felt in Canada and beyond. Others are seasoned veterans, considered among CanadaGÇÖs finest. Some cross genres. Others bend them. Many are award winners and nominees, including Juno and National Jazz Awards.

Oliver Gannon and his quartet infuse "Kelowna" with a Latin feel. Sinistrio brings a funky vibe to "Colourbox." The vocal performances of Melody Diachun on "When Beauty Reigns" and Johanna Sillanpaa on "Where Did You Go'" are at once intimate and haunting. The Bruno Hubert Trio pulls off its usual quirky, perky interpretation with "Sweet and Sour," while "Six Months 'til Forever" smoulders in Tyler Hornby's controlled hands. There is something here for every jazz fan.

Cellar Live boasts an impressive catalogue from Canadian and legendary jazz figures. Winner of the Label of the Year at the National Jazz Awards for 2008 and 2009, it is one of North America's finest producers of jazz music and staunchest supporters of Vancouver's jazz scene. Chronograph Records represents some of western Canada's best jazz, urban acoustic and blues artists. The artists of this boutique record label are quickly proving themselves, including winning the CBC Galaxie Rising Star, TD Grand Jazz Award, and Canadian National Smooth Jazz Awards.
