Sabin, a high school French teacher, assigns her class a translation exercise based on a factual news story about a terrorist who plants a bomb in the airline luggage of his pregnant girlfriend. The class assignment has a profound effect on Simon.
While completing the assignemnt, Simon imagines that the news item is his own family's story, with himself in the role of the unborn child and his father as the terrorist. In fact, years previously, Simon's father crashed the family car killing both himself and Simon's mother, making Simon an orphan. Simon has always feared that the "accident" was intentional.
Simon reads his version of the story to the class and uploads it to the internet. His actions result in the creation of a false identity which allos him to carry out an examination of his own family secret. As Simon uses his new-found persona to journey deep into his past, the public reaction to his fictional story is both swift and strong.
