When Bill Haley's 'Rock Around The Clock' became a major hit all around the world following its first release in 1954 it well and truly announced the arrival of the new Rock 'n' Roll sound which was to change the face of popular music forever. 'Rock Around The Hits' features forty-eight classic rockin' and ballad performances which were recorded for various television broadcasts and promotional purposes during the music's heyday period from the mid-Fifties to early Sixties. Virtually every track in this collection was a chart hit and as well as the major hits from the well-known names it includes rare performances from some of rock 'n roll's highly-influential lesser acts. The list of performers reads like a veritable who's who of Rock 'n' Roll and embraces the music's many and diverse music styles. These range from the rocking R&B sounds of Joe Turner, Bo Diddley and Lavern Baker to the distinctive New Orleans sound of Fats Domino, from Doo Wop and harmony groups such as The Dell-Vikings and The Platters to teen idols such as Bobby Vee, Fabian and Bobby Darin. As well as such stars of the legendary Sun label as Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins it includes rockin' country from Johnny Cash and The Everly Brothers. Each of the dvd tracks can be accessed and played on two virtual juke boxes. The accompanying 16-page illustrated booklet contains concise biographies of all the featured artists, along with individual track notes, whilst captions on the dvd itself introduce each of the forty-eight songs.
