The Headlight Serenade is the third album by Australian trio Triosk; Adrian Klumpes (piano, Rhodes, synths, sampler), Laurence Pike (drums, percussion) and Ben Waples (acoustic and electric bass). Each piece on the album is the soundtrack to a passing glimpse of a particular moment, memory or feeling, be it a past-life romance or the sensation of lying in a boat, looking at the stars. Working through ideas more fully than on previous releases and often basing pieces on recordings of their own improvised live performances, the band picked apart and honed the material to perfection, morphing musical forms usually associated with jazz and presenting them in entirely new ways. We spent a lot longer in the studio for The Headlight Serenade, says Pike, and certainly our intent was to enhance the recorded sound of the band and explore other ways for electronics to be a part of the music rather than just static layers.
